Ha Giang Mountain Biking Tour 10 days

Taking the long road through the North West traverlleres enter a remote land of mountains and colorful tribes people whose songs of love ring out about the din of the Sarturday & Sunday market. The northwest loop is a fantastic route for cyclist. Save your 10 days for over 800km cycling from BaBe national park to BaoLac, BacMe, HaGiang, LaoCai, Sapa etc…. this is the best cycling route in Vietnam so far. A shorter trip would be one week from Sapa to TamDuong, LaiChau, DienBien then flight back to Hanoi or keep on cycling adventure to Laos via TayTrang border crossing.

The ride towards Sapa from TamDuong meanders through grass valleys to climb alongside crescent paddies and corn fields into a ring of mountains the French once dubbed the ” Tonkinese Alpes”. Above all else towers Fansipan, at 3,143 metres Vietnam’s highest peak. The mountain pass 15km outside Sapa is the highest one in Vietnam ~ 2,000 meters above sea level.

Road condition: 80% paved road, 20% dirt road.
When to ride: September to December. March to May

Additional information


Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi
Airport pick up and transfer to central Hanoi. Free time to explore Hanoi old quarter while your guide unpack bike box and build up your bike. Short bike riding around the old quarter to make sure that your bike works well. O/N at hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi.

Day 2: Hanoi to BacCan – BaBe National Park (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
In the morning, we transfer 4 hours from Hanoi to ThaiNguyen and up hill to BacCan. We have lunch break in BacCan, then at PhuThong we start cycling off road 54km to BaBe national park. Villages of Tay and Thai in the opposite of the river. Make sure you turn left at ChoRa junction market town and continue 17km to BaBe national park (alt. +240m) . We ride about 54km today. O/N BaBe national park guesthouse.

Day 3: BaBe – TinhTuc – BaoLac (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Morning bus excursion 1hour to HaHieu, then we start cycling through forest of Mt. PiaOac, this is a very old bumpy road through forest and many villages of the Tay people. Many moutain passes to conquer, the most challenge one is PhiaDen pass +1200m. Late afternoon we have bus transfer to Baolac for the night. Total cycling ~ 100km today. O/N BaoLac SongGam hotel.

Day 4: BaoLac – Niemson – MeoVac (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Good paved road along Gam river, very nice scenery between BacMieu and BaoLam. Picnic lunch en route. Late afternoon we cycle to Niemson and start up the mountain to MeoVac. O/N Hoa Cuong hotel.

Day 5: MeoVac to DongVan (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
We have a short ride today, but the Mapileng mountain pass is fantastic. It is the most beautiful mountain pass winding between the Karst mountain in the north Vietnam. we stay in Rocky plateau hotel and time to walk around local market and an old Hmong house.

Day 6: DongVan to YenMinh  (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Nice day going through the mountain with a stop at Xaphin to visit House of Hmong’s King. Late pm we promenade around this small town. More info about DongVan plateau geopark, click here http://en.dongvangeopark.com/. O/N YenMinh hotel.

Day 7: Yen Minh to QuanBa and HaGiang. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Getting up to the heaven gate of QuanBa pass. Stop for panorama view of famous MamXoi mountain, then we have a long descent to HaGiang. O/n in HaGiang.

Day 8: Hagiang to PhoRang (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Morning tranfer from HaGiang to BacQuang, then we start cycling on a historical military road 279 to PhoRang, very nice road in the valley with one short mountain pass. O/n in PhoRang.

Day 9:  PhoRang to Sapa (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
We take a morning transfer up to LaoCai, then we start cycling up hill 35km to Sapa. Refresh at hotel and hiking around Sapa. O/N in Sapa.

Day 10: Sapa – Bat Xat – LaoCai (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
9:00 am We start cycling to Khoang village. Riding on a 38 km challenging climb along the Hoang Lien Son range with spectacular scenery via waterfalls and cinnamon forest. A fast following downhill to join a remote track to Ta Giang Phinh village of Dao people for our picnic lunch.
Take rest before we take a fast descent to the paved road that’s leads to Lao Cai. This is a long and challenging grade but you have a chance to cycle through rice paddies, quite and peaceful villages of Dzay and Ha Nhi people.
Arrival at Lao Cai station at around 5:30 pm. Having shower and get changes at local guest house,  enjoy dinner before boarding for night train back to Hanoi. Tour end in Hanoi.
